I just read the new player eligibility rule on the Winter Hawks site {here's the link} winterhawks.net/2019/07/16/summer-2019-update/. This rule though it should level the playing field, it will also weaken the overall level of play for the league IMO. My question is what does this new rule mean for the Clinton Radars ?. The Radars have many players that have played at some level of pro hockey. It is my understanding that Doig has retired and Murphy and Bartliff will be grandfathered because they have played more than 3 years for Clinton but that leaves, Dodds, Sanza, Ansell, Campbell, Flemington, and Klaver, six players that have played less than 3 years for Clinton and all have played at some level of North American or European pro hockey and according to the new rule only 2 players would be eligible to sign with the Radars. If I am understanding this rule correctly that means that there will be a significant turn over in players for Clinton this year, than factor in the players that won't be back because they have retired or quit for other reasons and Clinton maybe totally unrecognizable this year. Is this new rule going to significantly effect any other teams.

From what I’ve heard players only qualify at the higher level if they played more than 20 games in one season at the highest level. But I suspect many rosters will look very different. If it eliminates the yearly cheating/ineligible player bs it’s good for the WOAA. Also it may save some teams from disappearance.... always seems to be 5 or 6 close to death. The Radars have the same limitations as all teams with geography no longer an issue. In theory their budget should help them recruit the best 18 players within the levels

I could be wrong, but I think I heard Clinton can keep their team together, but they can’t add anymore pros etc. until they’re down below the limit.
So I would guess they largely have to recruit from Jr. A & Jr. B for now.

Not sure if that's correct Mrbuzz i heard some guys will be good to go because of length of time in league. Rest all fall into categories. Change i think for all is what this was done for. "level the field" as ramrod said

This new rule was brought in to stop Clinton from winning. Every other team could have went around and recruited just like Clinton. So instead of other teams trying to bring themselves up to Clinton's level, the league has decided to bring Clinton down. This "level the field" that is being mentioned, I am a little confused about? Previously was every team not free to recruit players in the way Clinton did. I don't believe there was rule that said Clinton could only recruit that way. Also, talk I have heard is they want to make it a more"Local" league. Not sure if these changes will accomplish that, as you can bring your players from anywhere, as long as you have the proper amount in each group. Clinton has a strong executive, so they are being penalized. This seems wrong. Hopefully, this all works for all the people wanting the change. Wouldn't it be funny if Clinton won again!!!!

Replying to gretzky99, it was rumored that 4 teams were complaining about Clinton. Seaforth was one rumored about Clinton. Unfortunately all teams were not invited to participate in the discussions about the rule changes and apparently WOAA went along with the few complainers. When you look at the stats, Clinton had been in the league for 25 years and have won 4 times. What about all the times Saugeen and Durham have won. Apparently no complaints there

the people i talked to said it wasn't just about clinton buying the best players. it was more about fake addresses and using cottages and all that stuff. cheating has been around forever and this is supposed to stop it. will it? i don't know, somebody will find a way.

You must walk around town wearing a helmet. Ever heard of London? Can't see their residents/alumni driving up to Shallow Lake to play hockey. So how can every other team recruit like Clinton?

In response to ramrod"s question ....How will the new rules affect Clinton's lineup?....Now that training camp is over and the schedule has started I can try to enlighten you. First of all let me say that the lineup from last year has been decimated by retirees. For instance, Flemington, Klaver, Pickett, Provily, Sanza, Restoule, Doig, Brown and Ansell will not be returning for this year. (All for various reasons.) There are also a couple of more still up in the air. Hopefully they turn out positive for the teams sake. For that reason the new rules, with the last minute inclusion of the "grandfather clause", have only necessitated the release of 2 players. On the other side of the coin, suppose all those guys had planned on returning for another season. Which I'm sure those teams involved in this affair were afraid of. That would have been a whole new scenario. Without the "grandfather" they would have had to tell 10-15 guys that there was no room on the roster for them. Who gets to decide who stays and who goes? And who gets to tell them the good news? I have it on good authority that if that had come about, there would not have been Sr. hockey in Radar Land this season. With the "clause" there would still have been lots of cuts to the roster but not as harsh. 4 or 5 of those guys would have 3 yrs. in the league. Looking at the new roster it looks like they have recruited some good talent but there is a lot to replace. I personally think those teams got what they wanted. A weaker Clinton team. Unfortunately, along with it they are going to dilute the talent in the league overall. What's going to happen when a Boyd Devereau or Dave McLlwain (sorry for the spelling) type player, or Ryan O'Reilly come back to the area and want to play hockey, but Seaforth or Clinton can't sign them because they already have 2 supposed professionals (20 game stint in the ECHL?) on their roster. Give me strength. I was just getting to enjoy the great talent in this league. But I'm afraid this might be my last for following this league. The GDHL. The Going Downhill League. There's Jr.C hockey down the road in Exeter or Goderich if we want to watch it. Good luck to everyone this season and stay healthy.

However I can’t wait to see Boyd Deverau, Dave, and Ryan OReilly suit up for Clinton. I heard Lucknow was just ironing out a new SR A contract with the 2006 Red Wings but sadly the new rules will cancel that. Oh well... Moron.
